Data Steward – essentially a technically strong hands on Data Analyst/Jr. Data Architect that ensures the quality of the data, becomes familiar with the Data Lineage, where the data is coming from, what apps are generating data, what departments, is it internal or external data, how do we ensure confidence in the quality of that data?  Understanding data structure, metadata and master data management.   This person will be responsible for process documentation, data mapping, cleansing, quality and integration of data, reference tables in metadata, business rules, data issue management and resolution.

The primary role of the Data Steward is to utilize Data Governance and Stewardship processes to ensure data quality and maintenance of client data housed in the data warehouse and data marts.  Client data includes individual and company data used by the sales and marketing teams, client financial accounts and other operational data, and external data that is brought in to enrich our data.  Additionally, the Data Steward will help develop requirements and priorities for enhancements to the data warehouse.  The Data Steward will be required to become familiar with the data, and the related business functions and processes related to creation and maintenance of the data, in order to ensure high levels of trust and confidence in our data. 
The successful candidate will learn our Client’s Data Governance approach and the related technologies, and maintain multiple cross-functional relationships.  The Data Steward works closely with internal team members, business partners, and other stakeholders to gain an understanding of our Client’s data needs and support our team’s response to those needs.  The individual that embraces critical questioning, innovation, continuous improvement; and that has strong interpersonal skills, consultation skills, client management skills, and analytical skills will be successful on the Data Governance team.
Process Development and Documentation
  • Recommend, design, implement and monitor quality procedures for use in the data production process.
  • Design and own process improvements for data quality analysis, auditing, tracking, cleansing, and escalation to ensure high quality data within various systems
  • Recommend maintenance enhancements to data acquisition processes to improve accuracy of data warehouse data
Data Stewardship – including Data Cleansing, Data Quality, Data Integration
  • Ensure high standards of client and company information used by the sales and marketing teams through data quality management review and verification.
  • Responsible for the integrity and quality of the assigned data as it exists across departments and processes.
  • Using Data Quality tools, build, test, and execute logical business rules for quality based on the requirements as defined by data owners.
  • Be accountable for integrity and quality of data personally created/updated.
  • Establish requirements and assess the quality and accuracy of the data in the data warehouse
  • Proactively monitor and cleanse client data across the enterprise
  • Develop rules to match and merge external data with Warehouse data (master data management)
  • Update Advisor information when they move offices, firms, territories, etc.
Metadata and Reference Data Management
  • Maintain reference tables with permitted values and work with Data Governance when changes are needed
  • Maintain company identifiers and cross reference tables with various externally provided IDs mapped to ACI IDs
  • Document metadata, business rules, and quality rules for assigned Business Terms
Data Issue Management and Resolution
  • Identify, assess, fix, document, and communicate potential quality issues in the way data is collected, stored, processed, or used.
  • Act as an initial point of contact for data-related issues, and raise data quality issues to the Data Owners when needed
  • Troubleshoot data errors with data providers (internal and external) to resolve data quality problems using techniques such as root cause analysis and collecting user requirements.
  • Review, correct, and approve data quality exceptions using data quality tools for remediation.
Required Skills
  • Bachelors’ degree in a related field or any equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Demonstrated experience designing process improvements and high levels of attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze large quantities of data.
  • Demonstrated understanding of operations and data structures
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proven passion for the data quality discipline
  • Finance, Accounting or related education preferred
