Location:  Decatur, IN (25% - 50% travel required)

Full Time/Direct-Hire

Salary:  $80,000 - $125,000

This position will work in various capacities across multiple plants.  This position will be responsible for creating company value while supporting our shared vision.  Key functions of this position will include electrical automation and controls engineering.

This is a high-level engineer that will support 5 sites as they implement automation.   Would prefer an engineer that can start in Decatur,  help that location get up and running and then this role would grow to support all 5 sites.  At that time, they need this resource to be hands on with solid working experience in troubleshooting/problem-solving, touch-up,  robot handshake (certified or accredited) in the systems they use and will be dedicated to working at the Decatur plant.  
Essential Job Duties:  
  • Identifies and installs automation projects to reduce conversion costs.
  • Facilitates cross functional improvement teams.
  • Design and installation of electrical upgrades across multiple platforms in various plants.
  • Identify, propose and execute projects to improve efficiency.  Prepares proposals & reports and executes planned projects, including, determining time frames, funding, procedures for accomplishing projects, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of projects.
  • Creation and application of technology to monitor or control production equipment.
  • Designs, develops, and installs all aspects of electrical control systems, equipment and machinery.
  • Work directly with machine operators to identify needs and develop solutions; work with Maintenance on equipment modifications and preventative /predictive maintenance to ensure reliability.
  • Develop thorough knowledge of all manufacturing processes and equipment; monitor and assess all equipment performance; develop requirements and participate in CER development for new/modified equipment.
  • Develop strategies for process improvement and evaluate impact of such changes; actively participate in and/or drive root cause analysis and process improvement efforts.
  • 25% - 50% travel required.
  • Promotes worker safety by:
    • Actively assesses activities on a constant basis to ensure no unsafe actions or results will occur.
    • Stressing safe working practices as a condition of employment to associates.
    • Assisting in audits of employee behaviors to ensure compliance with safety rules and guidelines, as well as housekeeping audits and surveys.
    • Ensuring the housekeeping in the immediate and surrounding work area is maintained or improved to the highest level possible.
  • Ensures Quality products and processes are maintained by:
    • Understanding and supporting both quality policies and the Quality System.
    • Performing work at a level that ensures quality of this positions work meets or exceeds internal and external customer specifications.
  • Actively participates in the continuous improvement process (CIP) by:
    • Identifying and addressing any opportunities to reduce cost, improve product/process and/or improve overall operations
    • Participating in CIP teams to eliminate problems, streamline operations or other areas as defined by management
    • Participating in CIP training and exercises designed to expand the potential for continuous improvement.
 Job Qualifications, Equipment and/or Experience: 
  • Minimum 5 years in a high volume manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum 5 years in automation design and implementation.
  • Fluent in various control software i.e. Allen Bradley, Siemens, Automation Direct and Omron.
  • Experience in vision systems i.e. Keyence, Cognex.
  • Demonstrated capability to lead cross functional work teams in the implementation of process improvements that yield cost reduction and bottom line results
  • Experience in utilization of statistical process control and/or lean manufacturing principles within a fast paced manufacturing environment i.e. Lean, Six Sigma, 8D, Zero Defect, 5S, Kaizen, Kan Ban, DOE background
  • Engineering/Manufacturing Procedure writing and auditing experience
  • Capable of learning and complying with FDA/GMP regulations and ISO/TS Audits. 
  • Experience in setting up process/cost operational metrics.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, in addition to five years of related experience is required. 
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Must be GMP compliant where required.  May be required to wear ear plugs occasionally.
