Location: Anywhere, USA - 100% Remote (will mostly be working in CST time zone)
Terms: Direct Hire / Perm W2
Salary/Rates:  Commensurate with Experience (targeting 80-110K)

Reports To: CTO

Our Client provides software solutions to schools and school districts nationwide and is growing and seeking a Full-Stack Engineer for their software development team.
For this role – as a Full Stack Engineer we are focused on:
  1. the front end with React and Typescript
  2. the back end with Vapor/Server-Side Swift.  Other backend frameworks that would translate well to their backend tool Vapor / Server-Side Swift would be Ruby/Rails, PHP/Laravel, Node.JS and Express.JS
  3. As an engineer on the team, you will collaborate with other developers and with our internal business partners to add or modify features as part of our growing product suite.
This is a full-time remote position, and you must be willing to work at least 5 hours of overlap with 9am-5pm United States Central Time (CST) in order to effectively coordinate your activities with your team. At this time, we are not considering candidates that need visa sponsorship or 1099/consultant payment arrangements.

We are looking for a Software Engineer who will assist us with design, development and installation of software solutions. Your duties will include development, writing code, and documenting functionality. You should be able to build high-quality, innovative and fully performing software in compliance with coding standards and other technical design considerations.

Our Tech Stack
Our Client’s backend systems follow the concept of a citadel - monolithic at the center with extensions into specialty microservices in rare and necessary cases. We’ve been involved in the Server-Side Swift community since early 2017 and the majority of our backend services are written in Vapor, the leading Server Side Swift framework.

Our Client’s front-end system is a React codebase written in Typescript. We use tools like ReactStrap / Bootstrap, Webpack, Vite, and Yarn to work. We stay away from overly complex patterns unless we deem them absolutely necessary - although our product has many layers to it, we try to avoid letting that seep into our codebase. We use Typescript to define our state management as well as our API requests/responses.

Position Responsibilities
You should already have a comprehensive understanding of how to build reliable and efficient backends and frontends with an eye on efficiency and api-first approaches. As a remote-first team, it’s also critical that you demonstrate strong people and interpersonal skills, as well as writing capabilities. Importantly, you don’t need to be an expert in our specific backend technology stack (Vapor/Swift) to be successful - you just need to have on-the-job experience with another leading backend framework and be willing to learn quickly and dive right in. Your typical day may include: creating or modifying a portion of the user interface, writing code, crafting backend architecture, shaping our overall products, writing a feature pitch, or diagnosing a framework or Swift bug.

Here are some things we’ve worked on recently to give you a sense of what day-to-day work might look like:
  • Integrated a government API with our frontend, providing a set of assessments for students to complete.
  • Added configuration options to our graduation plan, allowing districts to dynamically configure sections on a page in real-time.
  • Refactored an important feature into a managed component with unit tests.
  • Fixed a bug that was reported by a customer and impacted their daily work.
Required Experience
  • Experience building and maintaining production-level applications in a modern development language such as Swift or C#
  • Fluent in a modern backend language/framework
  • Fluent in React and Typescript
  • Ability to think about features s API-first responses
  • Experience working with relational databases (ideally MySQL)
  • Experience building and shaping React components based around product management specifications
  • Ability to interact with JSON API responses inside of frontend components
  • Experience communicating best practices for UI and UX patterns
Bonus Experience
  • Experience with Vapor/Server-Side-Swift
  • Experience writing unit tests
  • Visual design experience
Our Client needs a fun, brilliant and motivated Full-Stack Engineer. Being a fast growing startup, we first need a "doer" who will begin as one of the first members of our rapidly growing engineering team, “rolling up the sleeves” and doing whatever needs to be done to both lead and power our product quality.

The Company
Our Client is a different kind of company. We place a premium on social impact, having fun, working hard, and thinking deeply but practically. Our Client was created for educators by educators. We have forged both a corporate team and collaborative partnerships that represent some of the highest caliber talent and thinking in the field of K-12 education. In addition to diverse, high-energy, and smart professionals, we have a strong national network of leading educational organizations.

Our Client currently features 4 products (Serve, Jobs, Journey, College) with more on the way, all fully integrated and built using the most relevant and up to date tech stack. The suite is highly configurable to suit the needs of every organization and impacts students in highly meaningful ways.

Required Traits
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Energized about Our Client’s mission and goal: works to further our initiatives in all actions and ventures
  • Resourceful: Ability to utilize all available resources to solve a problem, including online communities and other coding literature
  • Learning-Oriented: willingly accepts assignments that broaden capabilities, learns from experiences, and demonstrates a personal commitment to continuous learning
