Sr. Staff Software Engineer

Sr Staff Software Engineer 

Salary:  $131K – 180K base with an 18% annual bonus and 15% long term incentive

Full Time/Direct-Hire

Location:  Kansas City

  • Participate on several agile development teams to build and support applications
  • Drive long-term solutions across teams with product management, relevant development teams, and software leadership
  • Work with development teams and product managers to manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
  • Interact directly with business customers to gather and understand requirements and how they translate in application features
  • Evaluate existing applications to refactor, update and add new features
  • Anticipate and address technical and organizational obstacles affecting own team and teams within the domain platform
  • Provide guidance for technical design and architecture decisions within and across teams
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of new technologies
  • Direct daily efforts of contract programmers and interns
  • Champion code quality including unit and integration testing
  • Conduct functional and non-functional testing
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications
  • Deliver high-quality and scalable architecture designs and code
  • Deploy applications across all environments in collaboration with development team, product management, and delivery (including risk management assessments)
  • Maintain licensing for development and deployment tools
  • Develop any technical documentation needed to accurately represent application design and code
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to improve own knowledge and skills and those of more junior engineers
  • Mentor other people and teams on technologies, techniques, or standards across the organization
 Required Qualifications: 
  • Must have one of the following:  Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field and at least 8 years of relevant experience, OR Master’s degree with at least 8 years of relevant experience, OR Ph.D. with at least 5 years of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience to include solving challenging technical problems in the following areas:  Relational database design and query optimization (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, etc.); server-side and client-side web application development (ColdFusion, Angular, .NET, etc.); software security (i.e., understanding of authentication and authorization)
  • Prefer experience in a manufacturing or laboratory environments (i.e., knowledge of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), or similar)
  • Expertise solving challenging technical problems in the following areas:  production optimization in coordination with Process Control Technology (PCT) teams; integration of MES and LIMS applications with enterprise resource planning systems
  • Deployment of mobile applications in a manufacturing environment
  • Prefer experience with Siemens SIMATIC IT, OpsCenter, or comparable technology
  • Practical experience and deep understanding of industry practices, engineering principles, concepts, and standards
  • Expertise in at least one technology or facet of product development (research, design, programming, testing)
  • History of influencing technical decisions across organizations
 Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of Cloud-based continuous delivery and environment management
  • Experience with application server administration – by directing efforts of managed service providers
  • Experience with microservices design and development
  • Experience with processing and analysis of large data sets
