The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer works collaboratively with end users to develop reporting systems that provide accessible information for decision-making and organizational performance management. Uses warehouse data to solve organizational problems through reports, analysis, and data visualization. Will provide enterprise-wide data warehouse expertise with emphasis on data design, access, usage, security, and quality of information assets. Will work in support of the organization’s leadership and users requiring data for decision support.
Responsible for maintaining strong relationships with vendors as it pertains to his or her areas of responsibility. Must be process focused, goal oriented, self-disciplined, and highly motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks as needed.
Business Intelligence Development: Translate business needs to technical specifications, often in close collaboration with the project management office team. Design, build, and deploy BI solutions (visualizations, reports, dashboards, data feeds, etc.) These solutions should demonstrate flexibility and agility in the design/build when possible and result in a highly polished UI/UX experience for the data consumer. Where necessary, setup and administer data automation and third-party data exchange. Maintain and support data analytics platforms. Support the organization’s cloud first strategy to the extent possible. Continually evaluate and improve existing BI systems and applications. Collaborate with the team to integrate systems and data accessibility through many channels to support our team members, leadership, and members. Develop and execute database queries and conduct analyses. Partner with the finance team to ensure any financial calculations are in alignment with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and the organization’s business practices, standards, and policies. Develop and update technical documentation, maintain a data dictionary, business rule definitions, and data flow maps.
Data Quality: Design, develop, and adopt a framework to conduct quality assurance for completed deliverables. Collaborate with business colleagues and leadership to confirm data outcomes and/or to seek clarity and refinement. Develop reporting that may comprise of multiple scenarios for comparison and accuracy validation.
Some Data Architecture: Develop current data flow diagrams and relationships with key business systems and/or third parties. Document operational data warehouse processes such as SSIS packages, data automation schedules, and operational maintenance tasks. Partner closely with retained consulting services to strategize and identify areas of expansion for the data warehouse.
3+ years of work experience in a data analyst, database administrator, business intelligence developer type of role
Experience managing security controls in on-premises and cloud environments
Hands on experience with (or similar) SQL server, Power BI, SSIS, SQL Management Studio
Prefer 5+ years of work experience in a data management position
Proficiency in writing SQL queries for reporting and data analysis
Experience creating reports and dashboards with a high emphasis on UI/UX
